Will Yasir Shah Finish Off Afridi’s International Career Completely?

One of the new faces on Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe this September will be that of Yasir Shah. He is a conventional legspinner primarily with the ability to turn the ball both ways, but also a handy lower order batsman. He has a lovely Qadir like imitated bowling action. Generally known to be an attacking and exciting type of bowler.

Abdul Qadir himself rates and backs his abilities highly. He has been doing well with Pakistan “A” for some time. He was a member of the 30 man preliminary squad for the 2011 World Cup along with spinners like Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman and Zulfiqar Babar. Also, he captained a domestic team during a 20/20 tournament last year.

He is only in his 20s, but fairly experienced domestically. I think if he performs well & is given a reasonable number of chances he can fit it at the number 8 spot for some time to come in ODIs at least. Best wishes to him.

Considering Afridi’s antics, behaviour, discipline, loud mouthed stupidity on national television, dramas, hassle, high level unprofessionalism, controversies, selfishness & internal politics I am hoping Yasir Shah will be able to impress and make a name for himself. However, I have also been following Yasir’s progress as a cricketer for some time and am pleased by the way he has risen through the ranks. He has been waiting patiently & is a deserving performer. Both of these reasons are why I really want Yas to do well. Mohsin Khan has hinted each member of the 16 man squad will get at least 1 outing on the 6 match tour next month.
