I predicted Imran Tahir will be the leading wicket taker in this World Cup at the start! So far he has not disappointed. All the hype and attention was worth it! Take that! A 4 for on debut. South Africa have something special in their armouries and have found that missing ingredient they always dreamt of having in their ranks, a quality legspinner! The Pakistani born shines for the Proteas!
http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/64/64996.html ^When Imran played for Pakistan at under 19 level. He was determined like anything to play for Pakistan but was a victim of politics. He tried his heart out and performed like anything. However, the selectors ignored him and we had too many spinners at the time. He married a South African women and upon her recommendations decided to play in the South African domestic arena where he did exceptionally well and now has been recognised as an international cricketer. A quality highly rated leg spinner who thoroughly well deserves to be playing international cricket. Ideally, it should have come for Pakistan, but it was not be but still its good to see him promoting diversity and getting his opportunity.
Absolutely, he was always better than Kaneria in terms of stats and class. He was even the best leg spinner in the world before he played international cricket. In terms of quality, variations and the threat he possesses, he is not compareable to many these day. I have a feeling this could be South Africa's year as well. I have predicted an India/South Africa Final.
I think India's bowling is still too weak Maz, even at home. Their batsmen will have to keep saving them and they cant do it all the time. SA v Aus or SA v Stanis! :)

Good to see some highly talented and attacking leg spinners in this World Cup!
ReplyDelete1) Afridi - Pakistan
2) Tahir - South Africa
3) Chawla - India
How we will regret this Maz! I blame the over-hype and overrated Kaneria. We could do with a proper leggy now!
ReplyDeleteIt's the one thing SA did not have, a quality spinner. Now they have, the WC will be theirs.
