Saeed
Ajmal has taken the most wickets by a Pakistan bowler in international cricket
during the year 2011 so far across all formats of the game with 37 scalps in 10
ODIs, 2 Tests & 1 T20 international. Pakistan has won 8 of those 13 matches
he has featured in. What’s extraordinary about this statistic is that this a
guy who only played in 38% of Pakistan’s WC matches which Waqar and Afridi can
explain and did not even play a single test or ODI in New Zealand earlier in
the year partly due his father’s death and partly because he was not selected
for the latter.
This is just a reflection of how phenomenally he has bowled and
performed when he has got the chances that even after missing half of
Pakistan’s fixtures this year he finds himself at the top of the leader board.
What a class act. What a character. IDONE the Magician! Remember, he also
claimed an 11 wicket match haul in Guyana and achieved the feat on 14th
May which was exactly a year since Mike Hussey dispatched him for 18 from the
last over of the T20 WC semi final. Class is permanent. Here is a guy who knows
how to trouble high class players, respond and bounce back in the most
admirable of fashions. On top of all of this he has having a fairly good season
with his county side. Let’s hear it for Pakistan’s no1 spinner. May he continue
shining and spinning Pakistan to glory.
